USB-ML-UNIVERSAL-FX

description

The USB-ML-UNIVERSAL-FX is PEmicro’s advanced Multilink — the same full universal device coverage as the standard Universal probe, paired with a high-speed USB interface that runs up to 10x faster on synchronous architectures (ARM, Kinetis/S32, MPC55xx-577xx/SPC5, ColdFire V2-V4, DSC, MPC5xx/8xx, and HC16/683xx), plus the ability to supply 3.3V or 5V power directly to the target. Where the standard Universal probe debugs and programs a self-powered board, the FX can also be the board’s power source during bring-up.

Highlights

  • Up to 10x faster than the standard Multilink models on synchronous architectures — ARM, Kinetis/S32, MPC55xx-577xx and STMicroelectronics SPC5, ColdFire V2-V4, DSC, MPC5xx/8xx, and HC16/683xx
  • Can supply 3.3V or 5V power directly to the target, useful during bring-up before a board’s own power path is validated, or on a fixture with no separate supply
  • I/O line clamping adds protection the standard Multilink models don’t include, worth having on a probe that’s also sourcing target power
  • Real-time power measurement joins the standard SWO feature set (ITM console, SWO data, real-time expressions) — useful for checking a design’s current draw without a separate bench setup
  • Covers the identical ARM Cortex-M + NXP universal device list as the USB-ML-UNIVERSAL, so no device-support trade-off comes with the speed upgrade

Where it earns its keep

  • Bring-up and validation work on synchronous-architecture targets where debug/programming cycle time is the bottleneck, not just raw device coverage
  • Fixtures or early prototypes without a stable target power rail, where the probe supplying 3.3V/5V removes the need for a separate bench supply
  • Power-conscious embedded designs where real-time current measurement during debug sessions is a routine part of validation, not a special bench setup
