Arm Keil MDK is a complete software development environment for Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers — an IDE, a C/C++ compiler, a debugger, and a curated set of software packs in one toolchain, built around the same Arm architecture that runs in the large majority of today’s microcontrollers.

The Arm Compiler inside MDK is based on LLVM and supports current C++ standards (C++11, C++14), and ships with a TÜV-certified safety qualification kit plus long-term support for teams building to a safety standard. Software packs extend the core IDE with middleware, CMSIS components, board and device support, and ready-made project templates — managed and updated independently of the core toolchain, so a project doesn’t need to track MDK’s own release cycle to pick up a new device pack.

MDK’s debugger and Flash-programming engine talks to a wide range of USB hardware debug/trace probes, so a team isn’t locked into one vendor’s hardware to use it:

Whichever probe is already on a bench, MDK debugs and programs the target the same way — halt/run control, breakpoints, memory and register access, and (on probes that support it) instruction trace — without needing to change toolchains.
