J1939 to DB9 Cable (Deutsch 9-Pin)
This J1939 to DB9 cable connects a logger or interface to most heavy-duty vehicles. Most trucks, buses and many tractors and construction machines have a 9-pin Deutsch J1939 diagnostic socket in the cab. This 1.5 m cable connects it to the DB9 port of a CANedge logger or CANsub interface, giving direct access to the J1939 network.
Unlike an OBD2 cable, it also carries vehicle power to the DB9 power pin, so a CANedge can run straight from the diagnostic socket with no extra wiring. The Type 2 connector fits both older and newer (green) J1939 sockets.

Where it earns its keep
- Truck and bus telematics: install a CANedge on the diagnostic socket in minutes
- Off-highway machines: log J1939 data from tractors, loaders and generators with a 9-pin socket
- Diagnostics: connect a CANsub interface to read J1939 traffic and DM1 fault codes live
- Fleet rollouts: one standard cable for most heavy-duty vehicles

Frequently asked questions
Does it power the logger?
Yes. Vehicle power from Deutsch pin B is routed to DB9 pin 9, which powers a CANedge directly. The CANsub is powered over USB or PoE instead.
What does Type 2 mean?
Type 2 (Type II) connectors fit both the older black 250 kbit/s sockets and the newer green 500 kbit/s J1939 sockets.
