CANmod.router: Bring Four CAN FD Buses onto One
Modern vehicles and machines rarely have just one CAN bus. The CANmod.router collects traffic from up to four isolated CAN or CAN FD networks and delivers it over a single CAN bus or a USB link, with no configuration needed to get started.
Pair it with a CANedge logger in mux mode and a two-channel logger records five buses: the free software splits the data back into its original channels afterwards. Used on its own, it works as a compact gateway that merges, filters or forwards traffic between networks.
Highlights
- 4 x CAN FD inputs with galvanic isolation, 1 x CAN FD output
- Output over CAN or USB
- Mux mode: log five CAN buses with one CANedge
- Gateway mode: merge, split and filter traffic between buses
- Silent (listen-only) mode and 32 ID filters per channel
- Small aluminium housing, 75 g, 7 status LEDs

Where it earns its keep
- Multi-bus vehicle logging: record powertrain, chassis, body and diagnostic buses from one logger
- CAN gateways: forward selected messages between networks, or protect one bus from another
- Test benches: bring several ECUs onto a single interface for analysis
- Retrofit telematics: add bus coverage to an existing installation without new wiring to the cab

Frequently asked questions
How can a two-channel CANedge log five CAN buses with the CANmod.router?
In mux mode the router packs the traffic of its four secondary buses into tunnelled frames on its primary bus. The CANedge logs that bus plus its own second channel, and the free CSS software unpacks the tunnelled data back into the original channels and timestamps.
Does a CANmod need a PC or a logger to work?
No. Once configured, it runs on its own from the DB9 power pins and puts its data straight onto the CAN bus. A PC is only needed over USB to change the configuration, update firmware or watch the data live.
Which connector adapters do I need?
The four secondary buses share a DB25 connector. Most setups add the DB25 to 4 x DB9 adapter, then standard DB9 cables such as OBD2-to-DB9 or J1939-to-DB9 for each bus.
