CANmod.input: Analog to CAN Converter for Any Sensor
The CANmod.input is an analog to CAN converter for up to eight sensors. Not every measurement you need is already on the vehicle network. The CANmod.input reads up to eight external sensors, such as pressure transducers, potentiometers, switches, flow meters or wheel-speed pickups, and publishes their values as CAN messages.
Every channel is sampled three ways at once: as an analog voltage, as a digital on/off state and as a pulse frequency or counter. Your logger or ECU sees the sensor data next to the regular CAN traffic, with a ready DBC file to decode it.
Highlights
- 8 input channels, each read as analog, digital and pulse
- Configurable ranges from 0-0.625 V to 0-10 V, 10-bit
- 1 kHz analog and digital sampling, 16 kHz pulse sampling
- Pulse inputs as frequency or 32-bit counter
- 3.3 V excitation supply for each sensor
- Runs standalone; DBC file for decoding included

Where it earns its keep
- Vehicle testing: add brake pressure, pedal position or suspension travel sensors to a CAN log
- Machinery and agriculture: capture hydraulic pressures, switches and shaft speeds alongside J1939 data
- Test rigs: bring lab sensors onto the same timeline as ECU traffic
- Retrofit monitoring: instrument older equipment that has no sensor bus of its own

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of sensors can I connect?
Any sensor with a voltage output up to 10 V, any switch or digital signal, and any pulse output such as a hall-effect speed sensor or flow meter. Each channel delivers analog, digital and pulse readings at the same time, so you choose in software which values to use.
Does a CANmod need a PC or a logger to work?
No. Once configured, it runs on its own from the DB9 power pins and puts its data straight onto the CAN bus. A PC is only needed over USB to change the configuration, update firmware or watch the data live.
How do I decode the CAN messages it sends?
CSS Electronics provides a DBC file describing every message and signal the module outputs, so any DBC-capable tool, including the CANedge software and asammdf, shows the values directly in engineering units.
